Friday Art Activity - Tegan Parks

In class today I created this picture by tracing a photo of me on to an A4 piece of paper and writing some words to do with me on the lines, then I rubbed out the pencil marks, and then this picture was created. Some of the words I used were, Pepsi my rabbits name, Goldie my bird and Parks my last name. This was a fun art project =)

Friday Art Activity - Damian Soo

Today for an in class art activity we got our picture taken and we had to trace our pictures onto a piece of paper .Then using words that we chose we created something that is called tagxedo. We  used words instead of lines, so our final image of our face was made up completely of lines, as we rubbed out he original pencil outline of our face. Some of the words that I used were sport family and music when I finished it looked great!! Damian Soo

Japanese Lesson !!

Room 4 had their first Japanese Language lesson for the term today. We have a specialist teacher - Jess Ware Sensei, come in from OGHS to take us for a high impact 30minute lesson each week this term. Today was just getting going with a few basic greetings and commands along wiht a little Oragami of some hearts for Valentines Day!. There are a few catchy little songs and rhymes to help us remember the new language. There is a very cool website to check out that will help with the learning of Japanese www.genkijapan.net. It was great to have everyone giving their best effort and showing such positive attitudes towards this new challenge. Check out the small video below of the Room 4 Japanese Action today!

Balmacewen School Council - Class Representatives 2012

After presenting a small speech to the class and a letter stating their intent and ability to represent the class Mariette and Tinaye are our class council members for 2012. We had 5 brilliant nominees who would have all been capable of this job.

This week we have Swimming again on Wednesday and Friday is our School Powhiri to formally welcome the new Year 7 Students to the school.

That Was Summer - Tegan Parks

Remember the time when you woke up to hear the laughing and splashing coming from Lake Wanaka just down the road and when you were just about to go and join in all the fun, your Gran gives you a few slices of her freshly baked ginger loaf,
That was Summer.

Remember the time when you woke up in Ranfurly and the sheets were sticking to your skin, the sun beaming through the curtains and the taste of your Dads freshly baked pancakes for breakfast,
That was Summer.

Remember the time when you went to the Naseby dam with your family and you were too scared to jump off the diving board. But when you finally built up your courage and jumped off you got a face full of that disgusting, green, mossy stuff,
That was Summer.

Remember the time when it was your first Christmas actually buying presents with your own hard earned money and looking forward to it the whole time they were under the tree. And on Christmas day, the feeling you get when you see their faces,
That was Summer.

Remember the time when your whole family was playing Yahtzee together, and your Mum was so lucky that when you hear her screaming with joy you just know that she has just got a Yahtzee and Yahtzee bonus in just two turns in a row,
That was Summer.

Remember the time when you had just had a big, long holiday away and you were looking forward to some nice, juicy, home grown Strawberries and you run over to them to find that all the good ones had been stolen,
That was Summer.

That Was Summer - Jess de Beer

Remember that time I was swimming in the ice cold water,
sliding down the water slide,
water splashing in your hot sticky face.
That was Summer!

Remember that time
I walked out of the house,
the sweet smell of the freshly cut grass,
with the cool breeze moving the leaves like magic.
That was Summer!

Remember that time
I was walking to the beach,
sand between my toes,
licking a Popsicle, that was melting in the sun.
That was Summer!

What Was Summer? - Devon Allen

Remember jumping off the wharf,
Climbing out, running back for more.
The waters cold, it shivers down your spine.
That was summer.

Remember kayaking in the rough, stormy seas.
The mud's on your paddles, it’s now on your knees.
Kayak to land, doing what you please,
That was summer.

Remember on the deck, eating ice cream.
It’s icy, it’s cold, and it’s delishly freezing.
The suns pelting down, it’s starting to melt.
That was summer.

Under Way...

well Term 1 is under way and what a positive and enthusiastic group of students we have here in Room 4. we have started getting to know each other and learning of the many skills an talents of the Room 4 team. Wednesday afternoon had us join up with Room 9 & 14 for a syndicate game of stopball and a bit of getting to know who is in some of the other classes. It was fantastic to see positive attitudes and such great energy in the game of stopball that we played, great stuff!
